Law School Library, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Solonos 104, Athens (Old Chemistry Building, NKUA)
The Library & Information Center of NKUA and the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) are organizing a networking event for users of PKP applications like Open Journal Systems (OJS). The event, part of the program of the 30th Panhellenic Conference of Academic Libraries, aims to bring together the Greek community that uses PKP applications and discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by Greek providers and users of these services.
For over 20 years, the Public Knowledge Project has been responsible for the development, maintenance, and provision of Free/Open Source Software for Open Access publishing. This software includes Open Journal Systems (OJS), Open Monograph Press (OMP), and Open Preprint Systems (OPS), with OJS being the primary choice for many Diamond Open Access journals.
The goal is to create networking opportunities that will contribute to the establishment of a sustainable infrastructure framework for scientific publishing in Open Access, and useful conclusions for promoting Greek scientific content.
The event is aimed at editorial teams of electronic journals, IT specialists and companies developing and maintaining electronic journals, supporters of Free Software, librarians, and all users of PKP publishing applications. While the event will not be purely technical, certain issues of technical interest can definitely be raised.
Speakers at the event will include Alec Smecher (Development Associate Director, PKP) and Kevin Stranack (Operations Director, PKP).
Indicative topics:
- Central infrastructures for hosting electronic publications
- Support service models for the sustainable operation of journals
- Promotion and visibility of scientific journals in OJS
- Forging a vibrant PKP community - exploring possible services and support possibilities.
